Test 2 - CA Quakes

Looking back on the progression of these posts, my appreciation for improved mapping software has solidified. This map was created in TileMill, and is hosted by Mapbox (admittedly a second account, as my first basic account has already filled - with an exciting project I'll unveil shortly). This map portrays Earthquakes in California over the past 30 days (so November 6 thru December 5, 2012). There are some neat features, such as the mouse-over information box. Enjoy!

Open Space- Monmouth County

This map shows NJ Open Space sites in Monmouth County. To create this I donwloaded a NJ County/Municipality map and then a NJ Open Space map. I was able to "clip" one map to another to obtain only open space in Mounmouth county, my home county. This is a realtively quick way to make a very specific map of an area, and I'm excited to work with this method more to make regional maps of different features.

Exam 1 - Take 2

Here is take two at Exam 1. I misread the directions and initially thought we had three maps to complete. If not for credit, at least I have proven to myself that I am in fact capable of making a *presentable* map from raw data.

Weekend Foliage Fests

This is a simple map of Autumn Festivals and Street Fairs in and around Vermont for an upcoming weekend. I decided to create this map because my family is coming up to Vermont for the weekend and I figured it'd be nice to eat some jam samples with them. This map is hosted on BatchGeo.

Mountain Bike! - NJ

Here is a map with some mountain bike spots in NJ that I've spent a good deal of time playing around on. It's a short list to start, but the iddea behind this map is that it's sourced to an open spreadsheet that others can add onto as they find points of interest.

Poultney Gas Map - ArcGIS Online

Here is my "Poultney Gas Map," now hosted on ArcGIS online. It is interesting to see how the layers are different in this program than in Google Earth. I'm finding it to be a clean interface so far, so look forward to more maps of this style soon.

Etre Park Adventure

This map was created using a set of GPS points I gathered while exploring a park near my hometown.  Upon entering the coordinates I realized how important it is that Westerly coordinates be entered as (-)value.  When I first entered the coordinates my map showed up in Kyrgyzstan .  So two lessons came of this.  There is a country called Kyrgyzstan, and latitudes west of the prime meridean  are negative values.

In case the gadget below is giving you trouble (it seems to be finnicky on my computer) you can load the map by clicking here .

Images of Ketura

I created this map for an assignment involving embedding images and videos.  I haven't used much html since the days of Myspace - so this was a nice refresher in coding.  I decided to map out some points of interest on and around Kibbutz Ketura, in the Arava Desert of Israel.  I spent a semester studying Environmental Studies and Peace Building here.  There are many points of interest here with special meaning to me.

Child 'Hood

Here's a map of the area where I spent my life until 6th grade.  I've included some favorite bike routes and areas where I spent a lot of time with my brother and our friends.  This map was created using GoogleMaps.
